In my opinion I don't really like those shorts. They are those types that look very "athletic?" And, so it would look weird if you were to wear them out on a normal day. So that would be a waste of money because you overall couldn't use them from here-to-there.
However, if you are very athletic meaning constantly training everyday then I would consider them for sure. If your mom won't let you buy them then consider some from maybe walmart or zellers, if absolutely necessary, I mean they don't have the worst clothing there.
Sandals or a Bench Jacket?
Well it depends how nice the sandals are. I think the bench jacket would be a better choice because sandals are for the summer only but the jacket could be summer, spring, and fall. You would get more use out of the jacket. If you wanted to show the image of the sandals then I would be able to make a better choice.
