Any former Bally's members at LA fitness? (in Houston?)
I've been a Bally's member for 10 years, and the other day at the newest Bally's in Houston (which is about 4-5 years old [?]) I was really annoyed at how crowded it was in the pool, in the locker room, etc.
So I went to LA Fitness over in the Marquee Center on I-10 today, and yeah Sunday is not a very busy time I guess but it was soooo much nicer than ... well, the nicest Bally's. Floor mats and berber carpet in the locker and pool areas, instead of subjecting one's feet to all sorts of nasties on a tile floor, not too crowded, bigger lockers, etc. I was impressed. I went in expecting a sales pitch and I got it of course, but not sure if its a good deal or not. Registration fee wasn't too bad and 29.99 a month, because of some 'glitch' in their system. Any comments, is this a good deal? it'd be especially helpful if there were other Bally's members who have gone over to LA Fitness who could chime in...
Bally's sucks. I joined way back in the day when I was working off Hollister because it was such a nice gym and so close to my work. I guess it was the only nice Bally's because when I changed jobs, I just used the gym by my house in Champions and it was terrible- small, crowded, & dingy. I've since moved out to Cypress and have joined the LA Fitness out here. It rocks! It's huge, there are loads of machines, the staff is all helpful, and I just don't have anything bad to say about them. I figure it like this- if you hate your gym, you're a whole lot less likely to go, so if Bally's makes you crazy, then you should try somewhere new.
